Breaking News: Moderate Earthquake Strikes the UK, Tremors Felt Across Several Cities

A moderate earthquake shook parts of the United Kingdom early this morning, causing panic among residents and minor structural damages in several towns.

According to the British Geological Survey (BGS), the earthquake measured 4.8 on the Richter scale and struck at around 5:42 AM local time. The epicenter was located near Birmingham, at a depth of 10 km.

Residents from London, Manchester, Bristol, and Cardiff reported feeling the tremors, with many rushing out of their homes in fear. Social media quickly filled with videos showing shaking furniture, swaying light fixtures, and people gathering outside in the cold morning air.

Authorities’ Response

Emergency services have confirmed that no fatalities have been reported so far. However, several buildings have suffered cracks, and minor injuries were reported in Birmingham and surrounding areas. Rail services were briefly suspended for safety checks, but operations have since resumed.

The UK government urged citizens to stay calm and assured that disaster management teams are monitoring the situation closely.

Expert Opinion

Seismologists stated that earthquakes of this magnitude are uncommon in the UK but not impossible. “The UK lies far from major fault lines, but small to moderate quakes can still occur due to ancient geological stresses,” said Dr. Helen Morris, a seismologist at BGS.
